Cao Minh Nga, Le Thi Kim Nhung, Nguyen Chi Cuong  * Y Hoc TP. Ho Chi Minh * Vol. 11 – Supplement of No 1 - 2007: 431 – 435

Background: Dengue Fever and Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever (DF/DHF) is a major global health problem, primarily of tropical and subtropical areas. Clinical diagnosis is based on criteria of WHO. Laboratory diagnosis is not applied.  Purpose: to detect and determine percentage of the anti-dengue IgM antibody on adult patients are diagnosed DF/DHF by clinical.

Method: descriptive and cross-sectional methods were used on 101 serum samples from patients at Thong nhat hospital from June 2006 to November 2006. MAC-ELISA (IgM antibody capture enzyme linked immunosorbent assay) was tested to detect the anti-dengue IgM antibody.

Results: The majority of patients were detected in young (16-40 year olds). The positive anti-dengue IgM antibody is 62.38% in general. This percentage is higher in patiens with fever over 5 days and highest in group under 20 year olds patients – 73.91%

Conclusion: MAC-ELISA can be used in clinical surveillance for viral illness. It is useful for hospitalized adult patients and atypic clinical symptoms.
